Week 3 :
Today's lecture we learned about blending mode. Mr. Martin bring us through few types of blending : Screen, Multiply, and Softlight. He demonstrated some exercises on how to use different blending modes and what are they used for. Screen can make two image intercept with each other like the girl holding a coffee with the smoke. Multiply can make the birds fly in the sky of another image, itys like changing another background. Softlight makes a gradient effect based on what object you want to focus on and emphasized it.

Week 4:
Today we learn about re-coloring. We have to apply color to a black and white photo. He provided us a black and white photo of a women and we suppose to apply color. We were taught to use layer mask, eye drop tool to take colors from other color photos in order to match the skin tone color of human being.

Week 5 :
Today we learned about displacement of elements. Mr.Martin demonstrated using displacement to make a flat flag to look like its crumbled. Also, placing the skin of other animals on an animal itself using displacement, masking and other helpful tools.

TASK :
Week 1 :

  • Present 3 excellent Photoshop works on blog.
  • Play Game https://bezier.method.ac/
  Figure1.2: @digitalsynopsis.com on Pinterest

This photo amazed me by it's perfectly done photoshop. I personally like fantasy settings therefore this photo catches my attention. I am amazed by the power of photoshop, it has the ability to transform an ordinary real life photo into fiction world. The best part about it is that it looked so natural and real, if I did not see the previous photo before photoshop I wouldn't know that the photo were being edited. It just brings an ordinary photo to life.

Figure 1.3 @boredpanda on Pinterest

What I like about this picture is that it combines two element in one space. A burning ice cream is not a common thing to expect in real life, however this photo brings infinite imagination. It's like imagine something that will not come true can be done using photoshop. This photo looks simple yet fascinating, no one would ever thought that fireball can be placed on cones made out of biscuit. I really liked the idea of this creation.

Figure 1.4 @Squarespace

This is a retouch photo. The left side is after and the right side is before retouch done. The reason why I choose this photo as my top 3 favorite photo is because it has both original and edited version combined together. It gives a feel of contrast and comparison. According to the photo, the looks of the woman had gone smooth and more presentable. I always admire people who know how to do photo retouch. I mean, who doesn't want to look pretty right? Therefore, this is the one skill I'd really like to posses.

BEZIER GAME
Beside finding top 3 favorite photos, Mr. Martin also highly recommended us to play the Bezier Game. This game allow players to practice the pen tool from photoshop. Players will have to trace lines of an object at different stages. Players will be given a certain amount of nodes, you have to finish up the nodes at each stage. There will be an ideal amount of nodes at the end of each level, its lesser node used the better. Players can redo, undo or even clear the stages if they are not satisfied with their work.

Figure 1.5 Bezier Game

According to Mr. Martin, this game allow us to practice using pen tool to trace outlines, it is useful as it gives a basic tutorial. Mr. Martin was right, it really helps! The more I practice the more familiar I became towards using the pen tool. Although, there were some frustrating moments I came across however I was able to encounter. Overall this game was helpful and it does get interesting and fun when it comes to a point where you mastered the concepts of this game.

Week 2 : Hearst Mansion Photoshop
After lecture, Mr.Martin gave us a task which was to photoshop our own photo into a photo of Hearst Mansion. I chose a photo that I took last time and crop it out.

After placing it at the right place, I start to do my editing and adjustments of directions, positions and colors of the image of myself. I also made a shadow in the water in order to create a reflection and also add some ripple effect on it. Finally, I got my final work done.

Figure 2.9 East Asian Color Touch-up

After that we suppose to choose one black and white photo provided by Mr. Martin and do the recoloring again.

Figure 3.0 Original Black&White jpg

So, I chose this photo to do my recoloring exercise. The reason why I chose this photo to edit is because I want to try something different. The photos were all white people or Asians, they all have almost the same skin tone therefore I wanted to try a darker skin tone color and challenge myself.
